Squamous Cell Carcinomas (SCC’s) 

  • 25% of what we see
  • second most common skin cancer
  • can potentially spread through the blood stream
  • generally due to chronic, long-term cumulative UV damage – outdoor workers, farmers, surfers
  • different subtypes:
    • Squamous Cell Carcinoma in situ (SCCis – AKA Bowen’s Disease AKA Intra Epidermal Carcinoma (IEC)
    • Well differentiated SCC
    • Moderately differentiated SCC
    • Poorly differentiated SCC (worsening prognosis)
  • Combination BCC and SCC (non-melanotic carcinomas) make up 95% of what we see
  • Tend to be recurrent sores that don’t heal
